This dive is one of the most popular and requested divesite which VELLMARI offers and without a doubt the most special. It is down to the tremendous variety of species which reside in the Platform, making the dive route seem like it is from a science fiction film.
The platform is situated on the west side of the islet ‘Espardell’, facing the north-east of Formentera. Over ten years ago the platform was known as ‘The Mariana’ a floating fishing platform which was used for the breeding and feeding of species such as doradas. It consists of a giant hexagonal structure which has sunk over 30 metres to lay on the seabed. Supported by one of its sides by the columns which were used to make the platform float when it was still functioning, the Platform is a monumental metallic structure that gives shelter to uncountable local species.
The wreck has acted as a artificial habitat which has rehomed numerous marine species. The best part of the Platform is without a doubt the thousands of barracudas which take over the structure.
